How to ace an Interview - Top Ten Tips

1.Always arrive at least 10-15 minutes before the interview.
Not only does this show you are punctual and eager but it also gives you time to gather your thoughts and take a few deep breaths before meeting your interviewer.

2.Suited and Booted
It is very important to dress appropriately for an interview, how you present yourself will reflect on how you will present your work. Dressing in an inappropriate manner or an unkempt way gives the impression that not only is the job not important to you but also that from a work point of view, attention to detail would be lacking.

3. A good firm handshake
There is nothing worse than a limp handshake, it gives the impression of a lack of confidence. It is also important however, for the stronger ones among us, not to break the bones of the interviewer’s hand! Gauge it right, nice and firm but not bone shattering.

4. A good positive attitude
Interviewers want to see a can do attitude.  Speak clearly and concisely with enthusiasm and positivity, an interviewer will be looking for someone who can integrate into a team and communicate at various levels.

5. Know your CV
Go over your CV with a fine toothcomb as you prepare for the interview. Think about some of the most significant projects you’ve worked on, what you liked and didn’t like about each job, what you learned, and acknowledge some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced – and most importantly, how you overcame them. Make sure that you’re ready to explain any vague details such as gaps in your work history. You’ll find it much easier in the interview when you’re explaining and applying your experience when you know the details like the back of your hand – be prepared!

6. Enthusiastic & Professional
Bring a positive attitude to your interview. Most interviewers won‘t even give a second thought to someone who has a negative presence or seems like they almost need to be talked into the job.
Always remember “You‘re selling yourself” and   the positive approach will show what you‘ll bring to the office every morning. Leave your social life and any associated drama at home for the day.

7. Don’t waffle
Answer questions properly – even if you need a few moments’ silence to collect your thoughts. It’s better to say you need a minute to think about your answer rather than speak instantly and regret it afterwards.

8. Why should they hire you?
Most job adverts will list qualities they’re looking for – a team worker, a good communicator – so it’s up to you to think of examples of how you can demonstrate these skills. Be ready to talk about your knowledge, experience, abilities and skills. Have at least three strong points about yourself that you can relate to the company and job on offer.

9. Clarify anything you are unsure of
If you are not certain what are meant by a particular question, ask for clarification. At the end, ask the interviewer if there is anything else he or she needs to know about. Do not be afraid to ask when you are likely to hear if you have been successful or not.

10. Remember your manners
It is better to choose than to be chosen. Finish the interview by telling the interviewer why you are interested in the company and job opportunity.
